Red Bull Racing no longer considering Kimi Raikkonen as replacement for Mark Webber – Formula 1
Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner has said that the former Formula 1 world champion Kimi Raikkonen is not on the team’s list for the 2012 season as the Finn has put the sport behind him now.
“Kimi is a great driver but I believe he has put Formula 1 behind him,” Horner told the media.
According to a recent survey, Mark Webber is the favourite option as a teammate for Sebastian Vettel for the 2012 Formula 1 season. Webber received 26.2 percent votes while Raikkonen received 26.1 percent of the votes.
The two former world champions and current McLaren drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button on the other hand received 17.4 and 16.4 percent of the votes respectively.
Christian Horner recently stated that Mark Webber has almost secured a new deal while Lewis Hamilton who was linked with the team quite actively is not on his list.
Kimi Raikkonen on the other hand is currently driving for the World Rally Championship and NASCAR and since the 2010 Formula 1 season, the Finn has clearly stated that he does not want to return to the sport anymore at least for some time.
This is a sort of an opportunity which can put Kimi back to the top though and after Horner’s statement regarding him, he might be thinking about a possible come back to the sport since this deal is quite tempting.
Red Bull Racing secured both the constructors’ and drivers’ titles for the 2010 Formula 1 season and even in 2011, they are leading by quite a margin after which it is believed that they might easily secure the championships for this year as well.
They have the fastest car on the grid currently and it seems that the team’s performance might not deteriorate in 2012 either. It would be interesting to see how Kimi reacts about this situation in the near future.
