Red Bull Racing not coping well, says Gary Anderson – Formula 1 news
Prominent Formula 1 analyst, Gary Anderson says that Red Bull Racing are “not coping well” after their struggling start of the season while they have not been able to come up to the front of the grid so far.
Red Bull have won the last two championships. Moreover, they completely dominated in the preceding year with their driver, Sebastian Vettel who took victory in 11 out of 19 races.
However, the defending champions faced issues with the upgrades made in the car during the last day of the final test held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona as they could only cover 23 laps and finished last on the timesheets.
Furthermore, they have not been able to perform well in the qualifying so far. Nevertheless, Vettel secured second podium in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia. However, in the second GP at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia
he could not score even a single point.
Additionally, struggling Vettel showed middle finger to Narain Karthikeyan after the clash and expressed his arrogance by calling him ‘cucumber’ which was immensely criticised afterwards.
Anderson said that Red Bull can no longer be viewed as the front-runners.
“Red Bull are definitely not a happy camp - that's clear from speaking to management at the team, and seeing Sebastian Vettel's display of emotion after the race in Malaysia,” he told BBC F1. “It is not the first time Vettel has betrayed that emotional side
to his character when things have not been going his way.”
In addition, he believed that Red Bull faced problems this season mainly due to the FIA regulation regarding the ban of exhaust blown diffuser. Besides, he said that the defending champions have plenty of work to do in order to make the essential developments
and substantial preparations for the season ahead to improve their performance.
“They are obviously still trying to find their feet with their new car - there were not many times during the race weekend in Malaysia when they looked like the real opposition. They clearly have a lot of work to do,” said Anderson.
