Red Bull Racing plan to hire driver from Toro Rosso in case Mark Webber leaves – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team Chief Helmut Marko has said that if their driver Mark Webber will does stay at the team beyond the 2011 Formula 1 season, then he would like to give a chance to one of Toro Rosso’s drivers.
Recently, most of the key players of Red Bull, which included Christian Horner, Sebastian Vettel and Adrian Newey have extended their contract with the team. However, Mark Webber did not extend his deal with his current squad because the team had already
announced that if Webber impresses them during the 2011 season, only then his contract will be extended.
Marko mentioned that he wants to promote Toro Rosso’s team drivers, Jaime Alguersuari and Sebastien Buemi, as they are performing well in the ongoing season.
The team chief added that Alguersuari and Buemi have a potential to fight the strong contenders on the grid. He said he will sign one of them if Webber decides to change the team at the end of this year.
Marko said, “This is by design. We will try to do what we did three years ago with Sebastian Vettel, when David Coulthard retired. Of course, this will not be automatic. If a driver does not meet all of the professional requirements, we will not offer him
the opportunity to drive at Red Bull.”
Red Bull Racing driver, Webber had a disappointing start to the season, as he was unable to impress the team in the first race weekend at the Australian Grand Prix due to a Kinetic Energy Recovery System issue in his RB7 car. After that, he seemed to be
improving and overcame the gap from his teammate Sebastian Vettel.
Despite having the KERS issue, Webber moved in the right direction in the last few races of the 2011 Formula 1 season. However, in the recently held Monaco Grand Prix, he could not maintain his position after the safety cars came onto the circuit following
a couple of incidents.
The 2011 Formula 1 season results will decide whether Webber stays at Red Bull or not. Let’s see how he manages the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix this weekend.
