Red Bull Racing plans to start contract talks with Mark Webber – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing is planning to begin talks with Mark Webber in order to decide on his and the team’s future going forward.
Webber only signs one-year contracts and Red Bull wants to make sure whether the Aussie will stay on with the team or not.
Red Bull have enjoyed good success with the Aussie as the team won back to back championships of 2010 and 2011. Webber was a serious contender for the drivers’ title in 2010 but was overshadowed by his younger teammate Sebastian Vettel who took both titles
in 2010 and 2011.
The Aussie is having a much better season in 2012 as he is placed second place behind Fernando Alonso. He won the Monaco Grand Prix and is looking for another at the British Grand Prix.
Webber is hoping to remain in contention for the title and will work hard to win it as well, although the competitiveness in the season has made it very hard to predict a favourite for the season.
Recent speculations have linked Webber to a Ferrari move but there have not been any confirmations from either side about rumours materialising.
“We're reaching that time of the year that we'll sit down and talk about the future,” said Horner ahead of the British Grand Prix. “With Mark, he's driving very well this year, I think his enthusiasm for Formula 1 is clearly there. I think he's in great
shape, and he's delivering in the car, so we'll sit down over the next few weeks and start to talk about the future.”
“I think the winter break was very good for me,” explained the Australian. “My focus was to really enjoy the start of the season and get the most out of my driving again, which is clearly all in my hands with my motivation and level of spirit towards the
job, and also towards the guys [in the team].”
He added that he is really enjoying his work and he is looking forward to the next season.
It will be interesting to see how the deal with Webber and Red Bull goes down as both will be looking into their futures in Formula 1.
