Red Bull Racing predicts nothing for Australian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing have not specified anything about how the first Grand Prix of the forthcoming 2012 F1 season which is going to be held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia on March 18, 2012, will prove out for the team.
Regardless of winning both the drivers’ and the constructors’ championships during the last couple of seasons, the defending champions have indicated nothing on what the season opener will hold for them.
Red Bull faced some issues during the last day of the final test held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona concerning the upgrades in the new car RB8 made before the test. Besides, Sebastian Vettel only completed 23 laps during the last day and remained
last on the timesheets as well.
However, two-time world champion, Vettel said that he was the outright favourite for the upcoming season which was quite fair as the driver who had won the title in the last season would be considered amongst the favourites of the next season. He also said
that he had made a fair understanding about the car during the tests.
Furthermore, he said that nothing could be said before the start of the qualifying session at this Saturday.
“You never really know where you are until we get to Melbourne and even then you don’t really see what everyone has got until qualifying – so I’m looking forward to getting started,” he added.
Vettel’s teammate Mark Webber had expressed earlier that he could not wait for the first race to set off.
“This will be my eleventh Australian GP and I can't wait to get started,” said Webber.
Moreover, he said that the team had worked really hard for making the necessary improvements in the new car and the significant preparations for the season ahead during the last few months.
“It’s been an extremely intense few months for the whole team and it’s incredible when you count up how many sleep-deprived hours have gone in to preparing the car as best we can – from pit stops to reliability to driver comfort in the cockpit – you name
it, we’ve always been looking to improve,” said Webber.
