Red Bull Racing principal Christian Horner says season still very much open – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing have said they are not expecting the same dominance they had in 2011 but the signs after the Bahrain GP show that they will be able to hold an edge over others.
While Red Bull maintain that the rest of the season will just as unpredictable as the first four races. So far, all the races have had a different winner. McLaren’s Jenson Button won the opening race in Australia. Fernando Alonso won the Malaysian Grand
Prix helped by poor weather conditions. Then at the Chinese Grand Prix Nico Rosberg secured his maiden victory and Sebastian Vettel went on to win the Bahrain GP.
Red Bull are not saying that this is going to be a resurgence after Vettel’s victory and reckoning that the season is being fought so closely that there is no clear winner.
Team principal Christian Horner said that while Vettel’s win at Bahrain was exciting and gives a great boost to the team, it does not mean that the team will be able to come up with repeat performances throughout the season.
During the Bahrain Grand Prix, Lotus showed how fast and dangerous they can be to the leaders of the grid as their driver Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean finished the race placed second and third.
“I think this season is going to ebb and flow,” he said. “It is going to be about being consistent in races you can't win and taking the maximum out of them. And in the races that you can win you need to deliver.”
“I am sure with this championship, with 16 races to go, we are going to see a lot more variation. And to predict the Bahrain performance just a week after what happened in China would have been tricky,” he added. “We've consistently managed to be scoring
points in the first four races. We have had four fourth places with Mark [Webber] and a second, a first, a fifth and an 11th.”
It will be interesting to see how the team fares as the season progresses towards the European leg of the season. The next race is in Spain three weeks from now.
