Red Bull Racing still questioning the legitimacy of Mercedes F-duct design – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing is still posing questions and approaching International Automobile Federation (FIA) to make the necessary clarification regarding the legitimacy of DRS-activated F-duct device of Mercedes.
Regardless of the fact that FIA have called the innovative design of the Brackley based team ‘legal’, the defending champions, Red Bull along with Lotus are not giving up their attempts to get it proscribed.
Christian Horner, the team principal of Red Bull expects that the head of technical department of F1, Charlie Whiting will give a profound look on this matter.
“Charlie Whiting, the technical delegate, has been taking it all into consideration and there were several discussions with him over the [Malaysia] weekend,” explained Horner. “I think he wanted to have a think about it and of we'll of course respect his
position when he makes that clear to us in China. Then the teams are faced with alternatives. Either accept it and get on it and maybe look at your own solution if that fits your car. You've got the opportunity to protest if we were to feel, or any other team
were to feel, that we didn't agree with Charlie's interpretation.”
It would be interesting to mention here that the Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier also threatened to protest against the results of the season opener’s qualifying, over the issue of legality of the Mercedes’ new device. However, afterwards, Whiting called
it to be legal.
FIA has not changed its stance concerning the issue of legitimacy of Mercedes new design of W03, so far.
Nonetheless, Horner has said that he is not going to stop pushing FIA, until or unless they provide more explanation regarding the issue.
The defending champions have won the last two championship titles out of which they have remained completely dominant during the last season with their driver, Sebastian Vettel who won 11 out of 19 races.
However, they have been struggling with the understanding of the car RB8 this season and they need to work hard in order to improve their standing in the championship by making the necessary developments and essential preparations for the season ahead.
