Red Bull Racing still unsure about their actual position in 2011 Formula 1 season: Reports
Recent reports have revealed that Formula 1 Red Bull Racing team is still unsure about their actual picture in the 2011 season’s races.
Despite of Sebastian Vettel’s performance in first two events of this season, the team still does not have a clear idea that how far they are from their final goal of the 2011 season.
The two-time world champion had won both the Malaysian and Australian Grands Prix from pole position until now. However, it is really hard to know what kind of edge he has had in the races with many of his Formula 1 competitors hitting trouble.
Red Bull chief Adrian Newey said that, his team is still unsure of their true advantage in the races, and that they do not know in which direction they are moving on the F1 grid.
He added, “If you go back to a few years ago, you saw when Ferrari and McLaren were battling for the championship you could see that they used their tyres differently. That played into one team's hands at one race and another's at another.”
He went on to say, “The tyres are a huge learning curve for all of us and nobody has a full understanding at the moment. I wouldn't say there was a particular set-to-set difference.”
In the Malaysian event, Vettel used the soft tyres at the start of the race, while after some time when he felt some changing in the track condition, he moved on with the hard compounds in the field. Newey admitted that the competitive picture of the team
was very complicated on the Sepang grid, as the tyres, cars and circuit condition was varying with time-to-time.
He also discussed McLaren’s performance and said that no doubt this team really worked hard over the Melbourne and Sepang races. He said they came very close to knocking Vettel off the pole spot at Malaysia, after being totally outclassed in Australia.
He further added that the McLaren drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button have better understood the race circuit’s condition and nature. Moreover, he said they have made a lot of improvements in their car, during the two events of this season.
After their two consecutive victories in 2011 season, Red Bull Racing are looking forward to their successful races of the remaining season.
