Red Bull Racing team driver Sebastian Vettel against Bahrain Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
The 2010 Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel recently stated that rescheduling the cancelled 2011 Bahrain is a bad idea.
“The end of a season is already stressful enough, and we seem to have enough races anyway,” reigning World Champion Vettel reportedly told the media.
The Bahrain Grand Prix was expected to take place as the season opening race of the 2011 Formula 1 season due to the current political unrest in the country. The FIA had to cancel the race since the Crown Prince of Bahrain Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa
requested the organisers to postpone the season opening race.
Reports suggested that the FIA might reschedule the Bahrain Grand Prix as the final race of the 2011 Formula 1 season in November or during Formula 1’s summer break in August if Bernie Ecclestone and the FIA confirm that the race will be postponed.
Since the temperature in Bahrain is very hot in August during the summers, it is believed that holding a race there would not be possible then. Other than that, most of the teams are not keen to sacrifice their summer breaks and as a result, August is not
the best option for rescheduling the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Holding the Bahrain Grand Prix back-to-back with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is going to be quite stressful for the drivers and teams.
However, since the start of the 2011 Formula 1 season was delayed by two weeks, compensating that time in the end of the season would not ‘waste’ the teams’ time or make the season longer anyway.
Other than that, since most of the teams are mentally prepared for a 20-race season this year, cancelling a race would affect the planning of most of the teams and it would affect their overall season performance.
In 2010, when there were rumours that the Korean Grand Prix might be cancelled, most of the teams including McLaren and Red Bull Racing Team were against cancelling the race as it was affecting their season run negatively.
Therefore, the FIA should come up with a decision regarding the Bahrain Grand Prix before the 2011 Formula 1 season begins or otherwise, the teams will face the same problem they did when the Korean Grand Prix was about to get cancelled midway through the
2010 season.
As a result, Bernie stated that the FIA would come up with a decision regarding the Bahrain Grand Prix in the 2nd week of March hopefully and it would be interesting to see what the FIA decides in the near future.
