Red Bull Racing team expecting improvements from Mark Webber – Formula 1 news
Since Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber was unable to perform up to the mark as compared to his teammate Sebastian Vettel at the 2011 Australian Grand Prix, the team has stated that they are expecting Mark to improve his performance at this weekend’s Malaysian
Grand Prix.
Red Bull Racing team gave an outstanding performance at the Australian Grand Prix as Sebastian Vettel secured the pole position with his fastest time more than 7 tenths faster than the second fastest driver of the session, Lewis Hamilton. The reigning world
champion then won the race the following day by over 22 seconds over Lewis Hamilton in 2nd place and proved that the RB7 is much faster than any other car on the grid.
The team stated that they ‘found a few things’ that may have been the cause of Webber’s weak performance at the Australian Grand Prix and it is believed that they have solved those problems before heading into this week’s Malaysian Grand Prix.
This is the first time that the gap between the two Red Bull drivers became so noticeable and as a result, Red Bull’s boss Christian Horner stated that the team ‘feels’ that they have solved this problem.
“In the sort of post mortem on the event, we found a few things on Mark's car. A few things set-up-wise, that certainly wouldn't have helped Mark, and all those elements have been changed for Malaysia, where we'd expect the two of them to be much closer
together,” Horner stated.
However, the team boss admitted that the team was unable to find the main reason why the Australian driver was so far off the reigning world champion’s pace in Australia and stated that the team is still quite uncertain why the gap was so big.
“There was no single issue that we could pinpoint. I think there are elements that weren't right and the difference that we've seen between the drivers during the course of the weekend was bigger than it's ever been and not right, so I'm sure they would've
contributed,” he added.
Nevertheless, it was expected that both of the drivers would challenge each other once again for the titles actively and it seemed that this time, it would get even closer than it was back in 2010.
After the Australian Grand Prix, it seems that might not be the case this year and since the team is still uncertain of the ‘main reason’ for Mark’s disappointing performance, it seems that the team might have a one horse race within the team for its 2011
run.
