Red Bull Racing team miles ahead of everyone at 2011 Australian Grand Prix FP3 – Formula 1 news
The 2010 Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel scored the fastest time of the 3rd free practice session in Australia this Saturday just before the qualifying session.
Both of the Red Bull Racing team drivers scored the fastest times of the session with Mark Webber as the second fastest driver of the session but the time difference between their times was more than 8 tenths of a second.
The team has proved that they can score the fastest times in dry conditions as well since McLaren scored the fastest times of the 2nd free practice session that took place on Friday.
Nevertheless, the two McLaren drivers are not so far either as Lewis Hamilton scored the 3rd fastest time of the session just 2 tenths short of Mark Webber’s second fastest time followed by his teammate Jenson Button
as the 4th fastest driver of the session.
However, the two Ferrari drivers were not able to perform up to the mark as Fernando Alonso scored the 6th fastest time behind Vitaly Petrov in 5th place according to the timesheets
while Felipe Massa scored a disappointing 12th place in the 3rd free practice session.
Other than that, the two Mercedes GP drivers were also unable to give a promising performance as Michael Schumacher scored the 10th fastest time of the session behind his teammate Nico Rosberg in 8th place
in the timesheets.
The session was quite entertaining as most of the drivers were pushing hard throughout the hour long session in order to test the true pace of their respective cars.
The new Pirelli tyres proved to be quite satisfying for the teams as well as the teams tried to understand the full characteristics and potential of the new compounds at the very limit.
Lotus Renault GP’s Vitaly Petrov, Jenson Button and Williams’ Pastor Maldonado were the only ones to go off the track but they were able to save their respective cars from getting damaged.
The qualifying session took place a couple of hours after the session came to an end but after the final free practice session, it seems that Red Bull Racing team is the strongest team on the grid at the moment.
However, McLaren are not so far either but Ferrari and Mercedes are not looking as strong as it was expected according to the results of the free practice sessions of the Australian Grand Prix.
The qualifying session would make things clearer as each team will push as hard as they can in order to take the best possible position on the grid for the season opening race that is expected to take place in Australia on March 27, 2011.
