Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner terms 2011 Italian Grand Prix phenomenal – Formula 1
Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner has recently stated that the 2011 Italian Grand Prix was just phenomenal for his team.
Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel cruised his way to take the victory and put a stamp on the team’s championship run for the 2011 Formula 1 season.
“To win in Monza is a dream come true and it was a really dominant performance by Sebastian. We had great pit work, strong strategy and Seb made a really brave overtaking move to retake the lead from Fernando after the safety car. Thereafter it was a very
controlled and well executed race,” he said.
The team had a very good overall weekend despite the fact that their car is reliant on downforce. Since Monza is one of the fastest tracks in the Formula 1 calendar, McLaren and Ferrari were expected to be much stronger.
Even Mercedes GP were expected to be very fast and they did a pretty good job as well since Michael Schumacher finished in a strong 5th place.
However, it was quite disappointing for the team as Mark Webber retired out of the race and did not give the team the much-wanted dominating end to a very fast race.
“Unfortunately Mark's race came to a premature end after contact with Felipe Massa. The front wing was tucked under the car on the approach to Parabolica, when Mark was trying to get back to the pits as quickly as possible,” added Horner.
Either way, the Italian Grand Prix strengthened Sebastian Vettel’s lead even more as he is now more than 100 points ahead of all of his rivals which means that he can now cruise his way until the end of the 2011 Formula 1 season to win the championship for
the second time in a row.
The only thing that can obstruct him from doing so are the technical issues which Red Bull Racing are not going to face anytime soon as they are the most reliable team on the 2011 grid with just one retirement throughout the 2011 Formula 1 season.
