Red Bull Racing team’s chances at the upcoming 2011 Singapore Grand Prix – Formula 1
The Marina Bay Street Circuit became a part of the Formula 1 calendar in 2008 where the first ever Singapore Grand Prix in Formula 1’s history was held.
The race was introduced as the first ever night race in the sport and on top of that, the Marina Bay is a street track as a result of which this race became quite tough for the Formula 1 drivers and winning it became a huge achievement.
Other than that, it is considered as one of the most entertaining races in the Asian phase of the Formula 1 calendar but unfortunately, this track also lacks overtaking opportunity as a result of which qualifying becomes more important than the race
itself which is something that is discouraged in the sport.
Keeping that in mind, Red Bull Racing currently have a perfect pole position scoring record this year which is the reason why their chances of winning their first Singapore Grand Prix are now higher than ever before.
Back in 2008 when the track became a part of Formula 1, RBR were not one of the top running teams of the sport and back then, McLaren and Ferrari were having many back-to-back battles. As a result, the rest of the teams on the grid were more like mid-running
and back-running teams of the sport.
The first ever Singapore Grand Prix was won by Fernando Alonso in his Renault back then which was quite a surprising victory keeping in mind that Renault were not strong at all in 2008.
The following year was secured by a struggling McLaren of Lewis Hamilton who secured his first ever Singapore Grand Prix win and proved that 2009 was not all about RBR and BrawnGP.
2009 was the year when RBR proved their true potential and the team finished in 2nd place in the constructors’ standings behind BrawnGP and back then, no one could have told that this was the beginning of one of the most dominating new
teams in the history of Formula 1.
In 2010, Red Bull were leading the constructors’ standings quite comfortably and it was quite disappointing to see them off the podium at the Singapore Grand Prix despite the fact that even in 2010, they scored dominating qualifying results statistically.
The 2010 Singapore Grand Prix was once again Fernando Alonso race as he secured the win for Ferrari and went on to make a huge comeback in order to take the championship lead later on.
This year however, the situation is quite intense and dominant from RBR’s side and one can claim quite openly that the team might have the upper hand in qualifying quite easily. That also ensures their chances of winning the race as Sebastian Vettel
is on an extremely dominant run this year and defeating him in the RB7 is just not easy.
McLaren and Ferrari on the other hand are looking very strong as well and one has to admit that they do have the ability to defeat RBR without any doubt.
But since the championship is almost done for and is heading towards RBR’s way, we can say that it is going to be an unpredictable race but RBR are going to be the favourite team for the win at the Marina Bay this coming weekend.
