Red Bull Racing to announce 2012 drivers’ line-up in August 2011 – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner has said that the team will announce its final decision regarding its 2012 drivers’ line-up in August 2011.
Since Mark Webber is on a year-to-year contract, there were rumours that the team finally might let go of him as they were at first interested in signing Lewis Hamilton.
Horner on the other hand claimed that he does not want to manage two world champions at the same time and that he wants to keep it as simple and sane as possible for his team.
Later on, it was revealed that the team is again willing to sign Mark Webber for another year but since the team went through a tough patch with him after the British Grand Prix, it is believed that the team might change its decision later on.
“He risked the second place of Sebastian, his third place and 33 points for the team. I understand that he's racing, but he also absolutely unnecessarily risked a crash. If all 500 people in the team thought only of themselves, we could never achieve our
goals,” said Horner.
The team principal has therefore announced that he wants to announce the team’s decision later on in August because of the fact that he wants to buy some time and go through his options thoroughly.
“He must bring harmony to the team. We don't have a driver problem, everyone in the pit lane is already beating on our door, and we have time,” he added.
As far as Kimi Raikkonen’s rumours are concerned, Horner claims that the 2007 Formula 1 world champion is currently in a very different world and that since he is not willing to become a part of Formula 1, there is no point thinking about him.
However, it seems that if Kimi does announce that he wants to return to Formula 1, then it will be a completely different ball game. Things would become even more interesting in the build up for the 2012 Formula 1 season if that happens. Let’s see how it
goes ahead.
