Red Bull Racing to save £7 million by using Infiniti-labelled machines in 2011 Formula 1 season
The Formula 1 defending champions team Red Bull Racing will use Infiniti-labelled machines for the 2011 season.
This will be confirmed by Red Bull coming Tuesday during the Geneva Motor show. Infiniti is a joint venture of the Japanese Auto motor company Nissan and French company Renault.
From this deal both partners will benefit as Red Bull will get their engines for free and Infiniti will make its way into Europe and Asia with the champion team.
Both the companies have been partners since 1999 as Renault have 44.3 percent shares in Nissan whereas Nissan hold 15 percent shares in Renault. Infiniti will get a boost against the auto giants such as Audi, BMW, Jaguar and Mercedes.
However, the Red Bull engines will be the same as used before in the new RB7 but the name will be changed. This deal will help Red Bull to save up to 5 percent of their total expenditure which will be used for further perfection of the team.
It is estimated that the revenue saved by Red Bull, £7 million, is the total cost of the customer engine supplies in the Formula 1 sport. It is not yet clear as to how far Infiniti will go to financially help Red Bull. Nevertheless, a heavy amount will be
spared for Red Bull to boost their campaign.
Red Bull were the only championship contender team who were paying for their engines as they were purchasing engines from Renault. All the other top teams like Ferrari, McLaren Mercedes and Mercedes GP use their own machines thereby saving a lot of money.
Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel became the youngest Formula 1 champion when last year he won the championship title in the final race. He, along with Mark Webber, made Red Bull the constructors champion for the first time as well.
There were speculations that the champion driver will move to Ferrari, which Vettel also agreed to, but now as his first title have earned Red Bull a deal of £7 million, Red Bull are not going to give up him.
Red Bull team boss Christian Horner recently said, “Ferrari is, for many men is a love story. Ferrari is just a myth.”
He further showed his interest in Vettel and said, “As long as we offer him the perfect car, he will stay here. We are regarded more as the cool team. But who knows, maybe one day we will also be legendary - thanks to Sebastian.”
