Red Bull Racing unveils their 2012 challenger RB8 – Formula 1 news
Red Bull has also launched their 2012 challenger, the RB8 online.
The much-awaited RB8 was unveiled finally and the look was quite a bit different from the RB7 particularly because of the stepped nose that has been on choice of design for the most teams. Of all the team’s cars that have been unveiled, McLaren are the only
team which has not adopted the stepped nose design but it remains to be seen how effective their car will be during the season.
Adrian Newey had earlier said that the car will be an evolution of the RB7 and apart from the visually different stepped nose it is still very much like the RB7.
“It's the fourth evolution of the RB5 this year, so obviously the pressure is to try and stay there if we possibly can,” Newey said. “It's a difficult task, we have lost the exhaust technology with the restriction exhaust outlet position that we were able
to develop and perhaps be ahead of the pack on in the last couple of years, that led to a big re think over the winter. Whether that will affect us more than other people is difficult to know of course.”
Team principal Christian Horner was very pleased with the car and said that the team has done very well to come up with a design that is both reliable and will maintain the dominating pace that was evident in the last year’s campaign.
The car will be showing its pace today at Jerez during the first pre-season testing. Although there is every chance that Red Bull will hide its true pace. That is something Ferrari has also suggested that they will not be revealing the true pace of the new
Ferrari.
There are still two more tests to be held before the season starts and a lot will be revealed in terms of how all the teams stand against each other and which teams have come up with the best designs to be strong contenders for the season.
The season will begin on March 18, 2012 with the Australian Grand Prix. Marussia, Mercedes and HRT are the teams left to unveil their cars.
