Red Bull Racing’s Sebastian Vettel foresees tough 2011 Singapore Grand Prix – Formula One
Red Bull Racing’s Sebastian Vettel seems unsure at the moment about his team’s prospects in the night-race at Marina Bay Circuit compared to other teams.
However, Vettel was successful in setting the pace at the second free practice session by beating Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso by a narrow margin of 0.2 seconds.
While speaking to Autosport, Vettel said, “I wouldn't call it advantage, I think it looked pretty tight." He further added, “We have to look how the others were, do our homework tonight and then see what we can do tomorrow.”
The 24-year-old German held the opinion that right now it’s quite hard to predict who will be the eventual winner of the night race at Marina circuit. The first free practice session had to be delayed owing to issues at the track related to the curbs. The delay in the second practice session left the drivers with not enough time to run on the track.
Right now, Vettel considers Ferrari as the Milton-based team’s main rival after Alonso’s high-fuel run in his 150 Italia.
The German driver said, “I don't know. I didn't have as much time as you to look at the times so I was busy when I was on the track, but surely Ferrari looked quite competitive, Felipe as well at some stage, so we need to see. Jenson [Button] didn't have the best day today so we see what happens tomorrow."
Vettel is currently at a clear lead of 117 points on the Drivers’ championship standings and if the German driver manages to secure the 13 points that he needs to clinch this season’s championship title, he will be able to secure his second consecutive Formula 1 victory with five races still to go.
The third free practice session is scheduled for Saturday, September 24, and the qualifying round takes place after that. The race will take place on Sunday, September 25. Most observers will be looking at how team’s fare at the third free practice session, the qualifying round to predict who will be the favourite on race day.
