Red Bull Racing’s Sebastian Vettel takes pole position in Turkish Grand Prix: Formula One News
As a truly exciting 4th chapter of the Formula One season concluded in Turkey, Sebastian Vettel further extended his lead at the top of the Driver’s standings by 25 points. It was the young German’s 13th career race win.
The Red Bull Racing driver started the race at the front of the grid – A feat that he has achieved 19 times in his short but illustrious career. And after a series of 58 laps, the German soaked up any ‘potential’ challenge from the likes of his teammate Mark Webber and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso.
Webber has been criticized of ‘underperforming’ as compared to the wonders that his Red Bull counterpart has been doing with arguably the same machine. This time round, the veteran was up for the challenge and delivered a strong performance – Red Bull started the day in the front row and ended it as such.
Fernando Alonso, after an inspired performance, starting in 5th, took the final step of the podium. The Ferrari has so far been out classed by its immediate competitors in the form of McLaren Mercedes and Red Bull, but was able to display a strong performance – The Spaniard even led Mark Webber for some noticeable patches of the race until the latter was able to make use of his relatively new Pirellis to snatch back the position. Alonso’s teammate, Felipe Massa, after starting 10th, struggled throughout the race and ended his day with a disappointing 11th.
Lewis Hamilton finished 4th followed by Nico Rosberg who had to bow down after some tyre related issues from a potential podium finish. However, it was still a solid performance from the young German whereas his teammate, and seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher struggled to get his Mercedes within the point scoring positions. He slotted in 12th after starting 8th. The second McLaren featuring Jenson Button finished 6th – Clearly not McLaren’s day.
Renault finished strongly with Nick Heidfeld and Vitaly Petrov finishing 7th and 8th respectively after a slow start to the weekend.
Toro Rosso’s Sebastien Buemi and Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi rounded off the top 10.
