Red Bull Team Principal tries to resolve their internal rifts
Christian Horner, the Red Bull team boss after the race at Silverstone opined that the team will now be acting very differently. After the incidents at the British Grand Prix 2010, the team is believed to be having a lot of internal rifts. Mark Webber, the Australian driver, had been very loud and clear in expressing his anger and disappointment with Red Bull’s management.
According to media reports, Webber was treated unjustly by Red Bull officials in the British Grand Prix as they took off his car’s new front wing to place it on Sebastian Vettel’s cars. The team’s decision came as a surprise for the Aussie driver. Webber, who suffered from a dramatic crash at the Valencia Circuit in Spain, was given a new car for this season. However, Vettel damaged his car at a practice session prior to the British GP. As a result, Vettel’s car was fixed by the team by replacing his damaged wing with Webber’s new RB6.
During the qualifying session, Vettel did very well and was able to begin the race at pole but the final delight came to Webber’s lap as he took the lead right from the start of the race and was able to end at podium.
There have been a lot of tensions hanging in the air in the Red Bull corner ever since the disastrous incident of the Turkish Grand Prix occurred between the two drivers earlier in the season. Both the Red Bull drivers were leading Turkey on a one-two position but unfortunately collided with each other. The crash resulted in Vettel’s retirement from the race while Webber lost his top slot and ended at third place.
Since then, the team lost their lead in the Constructors’ Championship and had to follow McLaren’s tail. Some good lessons should have been learnt by the team. Instead, the same rivalry ensued at Silverstone as well.
However, after the end of the British Grand Prix, the Red Bull team Principal said that they were happy for Mark as this had been a great race for him. He clarified that the driver had a great pit-stop and had the right pace all through the race to stay safely ahead of Hamilton.
Horner talked to the British media after the race at Silverstone and told that the team is jubilant to have won the British Grand Prix 2010. He added that Mark had now gone a place ahead of Vettel in the points tally and that had made the team change their strategy as well for the upcoming races. Horner added that the season had gone really well for the team.
Red Bull team Principal added that the team is completely indifferent when discussing both the drivers and as a team, the management have always tried to bring parity between both the drivers. He added that this weekend’s incident does not mean that the two are anyhow different in skill levels. He added that Mark was putting in a lot of hard work as Horner clarified that the team would do their best to resolve any issues between the drivers.
However, Horner admitted that Webber had been with the team when they were battling for the tenth and eleventh places and that he knows how hard the team has worked together as a unit to get themselves into a winning position.
Well, half of the season is yet to go and only would time tell if the team would be able to keep performing in the same way. Red Bull’s internal issues have to be resolved or they would continue to affect the team’s performance. No matter what happens, Red Bull’s fans are expecting to see some great racing spectacles from their team and hope that they would be able to resolve their issues.
