Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko understands key to Sebastian Vettel’s loyalty – Formula 1 news
Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has said that the key to keep Sebastian Vettel in for the long run is to keep giving him a winning car.
Vettel’s contract with Red Bull Racing team is valid until 2014, which started in 2009. Sebastian Vettel has given the team two back-to-back drivers’ championship by claiming 20 wins, which translated into consecutive constructors’ championships as well.
Although there were reports that the German driver might look into joining Ferrari to show his mettle like Michael Schumacher did. Vettel himself said that he would like to join Ferrari someday. However, Red Bull has remained confident of keeping Vettel
on board.
Although Marko believes that Vettel’s loyalty cannot be taken for granted, and has said that the key to keep the German driver will be to maintain a winning car. He also showed that he is confident of a strong showing from Red Bull in the coming years.
“We do not prefer extra long-time security and employment guarantees,” Marko told Autosport.com in an interview. “We will have a look when it is necessary.”
“The basis for Vettel to stay with us is to present a winning car to him. We cannot offer a glorious past in racing. Sebastian will drive where he gets the best possible package that creates the highest possibility of winning,” he further added.
“Having said that, I can assure you that we will be in a strong position in the years to come. Who except Ferrari has an engine deal in place for 2014 and beyond?” said the Red Bull technical head.
Marko made it clear that the team wants stability but are not afraid to look for and hire the best people for the job, and that is exactly the kind of approach that will keep Red Bull to be just as competitive as it is at the moment.
The Red Bull team will avoid running into a standstill, it will always look to optimise the staff and make sure the right people are hired.
Vettel looks to be driven by wins rather than financial gains and that is the kind of thinking that might grip him to stay with Red Bull as long as they have a competitive car, but it would be interesting to see what he chooses to do after his contract ends
in 2014.
