Red Bull aiming second position of 2011 F1 season for Webber, Vettel on board too – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing principal Christian Horner has said that Mark Webber along with the team will now be looking into helping him win a race and finish second in the 2011 drivers’ championship.
Red Bull wrapped up the 2011 constructors’ championship second one on the trot, last weekend at the Korean Grand Prix with Sebastian Vettel winning the race and Webber placed third.
Sebastian Vettel claimed the world championship at the 2011 Japanese Grand Prix, with both titles in the bag. Now, the team are looking to secure the second position for Webber in the remaining three races of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
The Australian driver is currently at the fourth place with 13 points off to second placed Jenson Button of McLaren in the drivers’ championship. “The initial target is to finish the year on a high,” Horner said during a press conference at the team’s factory.
“We want to make sure we can get Mark Webber into that second position place in the drivers' championship and it would be great to see him win a race before the end of the year.”
“We're going to attack the final three races almost as if they were the FA Cup final. We've got everything to play for and we can go for it now that both titles are resolved”
He went on to say that they have everything to play for it now that they have bagged other two titles for the season. He understood that the team McLaren, Mercedes GP and Ferrari are worth opponents at the moment and Red Bull will not be underestimating
them.
Vettel has also shown agreement on helping Webber to secure the 2nd position and said that it is very much possible. In addition, he stated that Webber is not far in points and although the last few races have been rough on him, he is sure that
his teammate will be working hard to earn more points.
He commented that the 2011 constructors’ championship was the big thing and now, for the team the next best thing is to secure the 2nd position in the standings. However, they need to work hard until the end of the season in order to achieve that
goal.
