Red Bull boss Christian Horner: Mark Webber very likely to stay with team in 2012 – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner has said that Mark Webber is very likely to stay at the team for another year despite rumours that Lewis Hamilton might join them for the next 2012 season.
Hamilton and Horner cleared out this matter from their respective sides as the 2008 world champion claims that there is no reason for him to leave McLaren since they are still producing a competitive car while Horner claims that managing two champions at
the same time is going to be very difficult for Red Bull.
“I really don't think blue is his colour. For Red Bull, the most important thing is the harmony,” said Horner.
Mark has been on a year-to-year contract with Red Bull since the past 2 years and each year, it is believed that he might not stay at the team for the following year mainly because of the fact that the relationship between Vettel and Webber has not been
very smooth.
The Australian driver gave a stunning performance in 2010 as he finished just a couple of points behind his teammate who secured the title for the team. In the 2011 Formula 1 season on the other hand, Webber has been struggling to cope up with Vettel as
a result of which, it is believed that the 34-year-old might not stay at the team for the 2012 season.
Nevertheless, Horner claims that the renewal of Mark’s contract for the 2012 season is in progress but nothing has been done officially yet.
“Well, that's very, very likely. We have agreed to sit down a bit later and then focus on next year,” said the team boss.
Webber also hinted that he still wants to drive for Red Bull Racing for at least another year and that he is hoping of staying with them before retiring from the sport probably.
The 2011 Formula 1 season however, is in Vettel’s hands at the moment as he is leading the rest of the pack by 186 points which is 77 points more than his closest rivals Mark Webber and Jenson Button.
