Red Bull boss Christian Horner says Lewis Hamilton is a great driver – Formula 1
Red Bull boss, Christian Horner, has said that Lewis Hamilton of McLaren is a great driver and that he is probably the best driver in Formula 1. He also mentioned that he is not looking for Hamilton to join the Red Bull team with Sebastian Vettel.
Horner commented, when asked about Hamilton who is currently driving for McLaren, “You would think he is not going to be happy if he has another barren year, but that's not to say we are looking for Lewis to come to our team. We're very happy with the two
drivers we currently have, but it's more of a question you're going to need to ask Lewis than certainly I can answer for you.”
McLaren-Mercedes brought Hamilton to the main stream in 2007, where he finished his second Formula 1 Championship. Due to his progress for McLaren, he was confirmed for the next season race and has retained his positive performance over the seasons.
With regards to his pre-season test progress, Hamilton made an impressive run with his team-mate Jenson Button, over the Valencia test session while the Jerez test proved bad for the team, as the drivers were busy learning the different setups of the MP4-26
car.
The four-day Barcelona test was better than the last one and Hamilton put all his efforts on the McLaren’s upgraded package and posted the best scored on the time-sheets. The team also joined the final Barcelona test in Spain, where they testing the soft
and hard compounds of Pirelli rubber.
Horner stated that it was Hamilton’s choice, whether he continues his career with McLaren or not. He said, “For somebody so young, to be in control of his own destiny in the manner that he has been, is very refreshing. He doesn't have a big management group
or organisation telling him what to do and when to do it. He makes his own decisions.”
On the other hand, Hamilton announced his new partnership with Simon Fuller, who is the one of the most powerful sports agents in global sports. Hamilton said, “It was important I took my time to make this decision as it had to be right for my career and
my long-term future. I spoke to many interested companies in recent months, but I felt Simon and his team not only wanted to help me become an even better racing driver, but they also shared my ambitions for the longer term.”
Hamilton has signed a two year contract with McLaren but due to the team’s awful performance over the test sessions, it seems improbable that Hamilton will be able to place on the podium at the end of this season.
