Red Bull comes first - Sebastian Vettel
Whatsoever the Red Bull team Principal, Christian Horner or the team co-owner, Dietrich Mateschitz, keep on saying, the team driver, Sebastian Vettel has revealed the truth. The German tried hard to say it as indirectly as possible, yet it was pretty clear
that he is willing to help his teammate Mark Webber, if the latter would need his help.
The team management had announced it quite clearly all through the season that they will not follow any sort of team orders and so far they have kept their words. Moreover, the enmity and rivalry of both the team drivers was observed on the track as well
as off the track. Therefore, keeping in mind this, one could very easily think that the last race of the season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix would not see the two Red Bull drivers help each other.
However, only one day before the Friday practice, Vettel told the press that both the team drivers race for the team.
Vettel very vividly told the press this Thursday, “If the situation occurs on Sunday then we know we are driving for the team...”
Mateschitz has proclaimed earlier this week that he would rather see the team losing than grabbing victory by unfair means. However, now as they head for the final round, the drivers seem very determined to get the second title of 2010. At the last round
in Brazil the team bagged their first Constructors’ Championship, and now they are adamant to lay their hands on the Drivers’ Championship as well.
At present, the Ferrari driver, Fernando Alonso stands at the top of the tally with his 246 points while Webber follows him with 238 points. The third place in the charts is occupied by Vettel having 231 points under his belt chased by the McLaren driver
Lewis Hamilton who has scored 222 points so far. In such a situation, the chances of Hamilton are very little and the real tug remains among the top three players.
If in the last round, Vettel bags victory ahead of Webber, then Alonso will only need to end at forth place to bag the championship. While on the other hand, if Webber is able to win, Alonso will have to finish second or the championship goes to the Red
Bull driver.
While talking to press, just a while before leaving for the next race Vettel said, "I think it is pretty clear. There are lots of things that are going to happen, and more important things before we get to that stage - as we have to focus tomorrow to get
the car ready, and then have a smooth qualifying as last year it was quite tricky.”
He stated that there is a lot in his mind at the moment that should be taken care of before the next round. He explained that helping or not helping his teammate is dependent on the track and the situation.
Earlier this year, both the drivers were not keen to help each other. Rather a great animosity was witnessed among the duo, at the Turkish Grand Prix when they collided with each other in the chase of the top position while heading for a 1-2 finish for the
team. Following the poor conflict, Vettel had to retire from the race while Webber settled for third place. However, as they now head for this last round Vettel vows not to repeat the mistake again.
The twosome also exchanged a series of rough words earlier this month, when Webber said that the team clearly had an emotional inclination for Vettel and wanted to see him bag the championship. Nevertheless, the team driver clearly stated that they never
forget the fact that the team comes first and he is ready to do all that the team needs, to assure its victory.
