Red Bull comfortable with being the only ones against RRA – Formula 1 news
Christian Horner, the team principal of Red Bull Racing, admits that they are the only team not to sign the Resource Restriction Agreement (RRA) but are still comfortable about their position.
The talks to finalise the Concorde Agreement between Bernie Ecclestone, FIA and the teams have been going on for a while now. A decision was set to be reached by the end of this month but that does not seem to be the case now as it is expected that the meetings
will be dragged on for a few more weeks. The agreement when finalised will be imposed from next year and will continue until 2020. One section of the Concorde Agreement is the RRA which deals with cost cutting measures.
The Red Bull Racing team and its sister team Toro Rosso seem to have some problem with the elements of RRA and hence have refused to sign it. The team is often known to have certain disagreements while the others have had no problem. This time around the
refusal to agree comes from the fact that cost cutting measures do not include cutting down on engine expenditure. However, Horner insists that they have no problem fighting alone in this battle while the other teams have not taken their disagreement lightly.
Both Red Bull and Toro Rosso were not invited to a meeting held in Japan this weekend.
“Our existence is to do the very best we can to try and win grands prix and challenge for World Championships,” he told to Autosport.
Horner says that they are also concerned about how much money they spend as they do not have the largest budget among the Formula 1 community but the agreement should be able to include cost cutting on all major elements and not just the retainers.
“So it seems ironic on one hand to be talking about cost reductions when retainers are being discussed at the levels that they are,” he commented. “I am entirely comfortable with our position. We are focused on doing the best job we can. We have been very
consistent with our position regarding the resource restriction and, if that sits uncomfortably with others, then that is their issue, not ours.”
