Red Bull consultant Helmut Marko says they have solved KERS problem for Turkish Grand Prix
Red Bull Racing Team consultant Helmut Marko has said that the team has finally overcome its Kinetic Energy Recovery System problem and are now ready to use it actively starting from the Turkish Grand Prix this weekend.
The reigning world champions have been struggling with the device so far in the 2011 Formula 1 season as Mark Webber was in a lot of bother at the Malaysian Grand Prix which was the first time the team used KERS on its car.
However, the team claims that they have finally solved the problem during the Easter break and are ready to use it at the upcoming Turkish Grand Prix.
“Our KERS system is fine; over the Easter break we have made some modifications. It is much better now. It works,” Marko told the media.
Nevertheless, Webber has been the only victim of this problem as Sebastian Vettel’s drive has been pretty smooth so far. Webber faced many problems during the Chinese Grand Prix as well mainly due to the problems with his KERS device. Red Bull Racing Team
vowed to overcome this problem as the team believes that due to this problem, the Australian driver’s car was having some overheating problems as well.
Marko claims that the problem has now been fixed. If this is true, then the team will gain a noticeable advantage over the rest of the teams on the grid.
The team’s new car was 7 tenths of a second faster than the McLarens at the qualifying session of the Chinese Grand Prix. The reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel is now hoping for even better results at the upcoming race in Istanbul.
“Our car should be strong there, but of course we have to respect our competitors and can never take anything for granted. People are pushing hard, but we are pushing very hard too to maintain our strengths,” said Vettel.
However, Sebastian Vettel is clearly the fastest driver on the track while his teammate Mark Webber, who is using the same technology as him, is struggling to perform as fast.
One can admit that the German has been performing extremely well so far in the ongoing season but since the reigning world champion was unable to secure a victory at the Chinese Grand Prix, it seems that Red Bull Racing Team are beatable after all and McLaren
have the ability to challenge them for wins at the upcoming races.
It would be interesting to see how the MP4-26 performs with its new upgrades as compared to the RB7 this weekend.
