Red Bull content with qualifiers, but race participation in doubt – Formula 1 news
Sebastian Vettel says that the condition during the qualifier at Hockenheim was very difficult.
He said that the track was best at the end of the session, which is the time both drivers were able to get their best times of the day.
He said that in these type of conditions it is extremely difficult as you can lose control of the car due to aquaplaning. Vettel added that he lost some time running into his team-mate Mark Webber at the end of one lap as the vision gets very poor.
“I think we had the pace today to put the car on pole - so we need to look at what Fernando did with his strategy. But it can be a lottery when the weather's like that and fortunately we didn't lose the car, which is good and I'm starting on the front line
tomorrow. We are being consistent at the moment, which is the key,” he said.
Team principal Christian Horner also said that the conditions were very tricky and second and third place is a positive result.
“Nonetheless, for Sebastian to be starting on the front row at his home race and Mark to be eighth on a track where overtaking is possible, will make for a really exciting race,” Horner said.
Webber also found the conditions tough but is confident of his chances for the race day. Webber is placed second in the Drivers’ Championship, 13 points behind Fernando Alonso. This will be a good opportunity for the Aussie to make sure that he closes the
gap to be able to lead the standings.
Red Bull have been recently hit with a horrible threat of not qualifying for the race as there is a legality issue with the engine of the car. The FIA delegation have found there is a torque rpm issue in the engine of the car which can give unfair aerodynamic
advantage and hence can be deemed illegal.
The issue has been sent to the stewards for further investigation and to make a ruling. If Red Bull loses out to feature in the race it will be a huge blow to their bid to contend for the 2012 titles.
