Red Bull did not cross its financial budget: Christian Horner
Red Bull Racing Team secured both constructors’ and drivers’ titles in 2010 and it seemed that they were unstoppable throughout the season. The team performed consistently and since they had the best car on the grid, both Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel
proved that they have what it takes to drive a car to its limits.
Since the team performed a bit “too good” throughout the season, there were rumours that Red Bull racing team was accused of using more money than the allotted financial budget limit.
Christian Horner recently issued a statement and denied these accusations as he claims that his team flouted a cost-saving agreement and won both of the world championships fair and square in 2010 and if the team broke its agreement with the RRA (Resource
Restriction Agreement), they would have faced the penalties according to the agreement.
“We've worked in accordance with the RRA limits since they were introduced. Red Bull has committed its budgets wisely and it's obviously surprising that people will feel that way, but it's inevitable, I guess, when you're at the front and winning races,”
said Horner.
FIA’s former President Max Mosley also believed that Red Bull might have used more money than it was allowed to and it is expected that Team Mercedes might do the same in order to develop their KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) at its best.
Christian Horner also stated that Red Bull Racing Team expects a potential challenge from its rivals with reference to finances.
“Red Bull probably has the third or fourth biggest budget in F1. We spent prudently and have achieved great efficiency within the factory, and we have to top that in 2011,” he added.
There are rumours that because of this situation, Formula One Teams Association (FOTA) is not as stable as it used to be and it is dividing into divisions now. HRT left the organization because of these problems and Red Bull is also refusing to sign a new
agreement with RRA for 2011-2017.
However, Horner is confident that the team genuinely performed better than the rest of the teams and this issue will be resolved soon.
“The [agreement] needs to be sorted quite quickly because at the moment it is unclear what rules we are working to in 2011 in many respects, so it's important a solution is found and I think one will be found,” said Christian.
