Red Bull driver Mark Webber: I lost podium position in the middle of Indian GP – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has said that he was frustrated with the pace which he had at the end of the stints of the 2011 Indian Grand Prix held on Sunday, October 30.
Webber added that he was moving in the right direction in the initial stages of the race, but in the middle of the Grand Prix, he dropped down his position. He also mentioned that until the end of the race he has been unable to cover his place and failed
to finish on the podium in the end.
The Australian started his 2011 Indian race weekend from the second position at the newly constructed Buddh International Circuit and after battling it out with his rivals, he came at the fourth place in the final race classifications.
Webber commented, “That’s the way it was. I could have got Fernando at the end, but the Maccas and Ferraris were pretty strong in that first sector – Jenson (Button) got me on the first lap on the back straight. I was quick against them on the first few
laps, but after, as soon as you fight, you chew the tires up.”
Apart from that, the 35-year-old driver discussed his fight with McLaren’s Jenson Button at turn 4 of the Indian F1 circuit.
He went on to mention, “I probably could have gone down the inside of Turn 4, but it was still very dusty. I thought I’d have a bit of a poke around the outside, but he fixed me up on the outside, which is fair enough, as I fixed him up in Korea. That’s
the way it goes.”
The Red Bull Racing driver further added that he had an extra challenge in the closing laps of the race when he was chasing Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso. He stated that the traffic was too bad in the last stages and that Alonso got the DRS in every lap from
the backmarkers which made overtaking difficult for him.
After taking part in the 17 rounds of the 2011 Formula 1 season so far, Webber is placed at the fourth place with 221 points in the drivers’ championship.
Let’s see how Webber performs in the last two rounds of the ongoing season following his fourth position in the Indian race.
