Red Bull driver Mark Webber aims to score more points in the forthcoming season – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has said that their target is to keep on scoring reasonable points in the forthcoming 2012 Formula 1 season so as to make their position stronger in the championship fight.
Webber said that it is extremely hard to make any kind of predictions about the European Grand Prix which is to be held at Valencia Street Circuit in Spain on June 24 as there have been seven different winners in the first seven grands prix. However, he
said that his aim is to score points in each and every race ahead.
The Australian driver is presently standing at fourth place in the drivers’ championship with 79 points. Besides, he is 12 points ahead of Nico Rosberg of Mercedes and 6 points behind his teammate, Sebastian Vettel.
Meanwhile, the defending champions are leading the constructors’ championship with 164 points. Additionally, they are 31 points ahead of their main rival, McLaren.
Furthermore, Webber asserted that their aim is to improve their positions in the drivers’ and constructors’ rankings for which they have been trying to make the necessary advancements and the significant preparations.
“Obviously it’s very difficult to predict how we might go in Valencia, as we’ve clearly seen with seven winners and plenty of different podiums. Our main goal is to improve our positions in both championships, so personally for me in Drivers’ Championship
and of course the team is looking to keep good margin in Constructors’. I know everyone in Milton Keynes has been working incredibly hard in between two races,” he said.
On the other hand, Vettel is currently standing at third position in the drivers’ championship with 85 points and he is just one point behind the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.
In addition, the veteran German driver expressed his concern over risky overtaking on the track of the next race.
“In Valencia, we drive an average of more than 200kph, which means it's one of fastest street circuits in F1,” said Vettel. “Overtaking is possible, but only with some risk.”
Nevertheless, the defending champion said that he is positively looking forward to perform well in the upcoming race.
