Red Bull driver Mark Webber maintains pace in FP2 of Spanish Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
At the second free practice session of the Spanish Grand Prix this past Friday, May 20, 2011, Red Bull Racing team’s Mark Webber maintained his pace and became the fastest driver of the day.
Webber scored the fastest times for both 1st and 2nd free practice sessions. However, the second session was not as easy as the first session for him as he scored the fastest lap of the session in the very last minute. He outscored
Lewis Hamilton’s time by just 0.039 seconds. His teammate Sebastian Vettel on the other hand was 3 tenths of a second short of the fastest lap time of the session.
The top three were followed by Jenson Button who was 3 tenths further off the fastest time but since both of the McLaren drivers are looking strong, it seems that Red Bull Racing Team is not going to have an easy weekend in Barcelona.
Although Red Bull scored the fastest times of both of the Friday practice sessions, their time was not marginal in the second session. Since McLaren were expected to apply some major updates to their car, it seems that their upgrades are working properly
to some extent.
On the other hand, during high temperature conditions, Fernando Alonso scored the fastest time as most of the teams were using the harder compound introduced by Pirelli this weekend.
Nevertheless, Fernando finished as the 5th fastest driver of the session followed by the two Mercedes GP drivers Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher. Rosberg gave a promising performance during the first practice session since he finished as the
third fastest driver of the session following the two Red Bull Racing Team drivers.
However, the final free practice session is going to be a revelation for all of the teams as it would reflect the real pace of each team’s respective car just hours before the qualifying session.
Qualifying is going to be vital for McLaren and Ferrari for the Spanish Grand Prix if they want to challenge for either podium positions or victory.
