Red Bull driver Mark Webber pleased with European Grand Prix show – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team driver Mark Webber has said that he is quite pleased with his performance in the 2011 Formula 1 European Grand Prix, as he finished his race at the third place for the team.
He admitted that losing the second place due to a pit stop in the closing laps of the race was his own fault.
Webber took a good start to the Valencia race weekend, where he finished his Friday practice sessions on the grid in a decent form. The team driver had a strong qualifying round, as he secured second place for Sunday’s race.
The Australian started his race from the front row on the grid. He seemed to be struggling for his best finish in the Valencia Grand Prix from the start of the weekend.
Red Bull’s driver was in the second place during the European GP. However, in the closing laps he decided to take another pitstop. As a result of that, he could not retain his second position until the end of race and finished his run behind Ferrari’s Fernando
Alonso.
Webber was 27.2 seconds off the pace of his teammate Sebastian Vettel, who was the winner of the European Grand Prix.
He discussed his performance at Valencia and said, “I was right about Fernando coming underneath me in the stop and did not know how the medium would perform on the out lap. That is the risk I decided to take – we lost out. All of us nip and tuck. In the
end the gearbox was playing up.”
The 34-year-old driver went on to mention, “I think we saw today was the closest I've been for a while. I am getting better, up until the last 15 per cent that is the way it goes. It's fine line racing against those guys. I am happy with my performance and
I will come back better at the next race.”
The team driver admitted that it was the ‘best’ race for him in the ongoing season. He further added that his show at Europe encouraged him a lot for the remainder of the season.
After a good finish at the Valencia Street Circuit, Webber is hoping for a race victory in the upcoming race weekends.
