Red Bull driver Mark Webber rubbishes claims that he won with an illegal car at Monaco – Formula 1 news
Red Bull driver Mark Webber insists that the FIA rule change regarding the floor holes have no impact on the team.
Webber won the Monaco Grand Prix and did not take nicely to jibes of winning it with an illegal car. The Aussie said that the floor holes were already planned to be removed with the next car update.
He rejected claims of Sebastian Vettel his team-mate and him winning the races in 2012 with the help of the floor holes. The issue was raised by Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes who said that the holes were not meeting the FIA regulations.
FIA though had cleared the Red Bull car but after the Monaco race changed the rule and deemed them illegal. The rule change is speculated to be linked to probable protest threats from the aforementioned teams prior to the start of the Monaco race.
Webber clearly showed anger over the notion that his and his team-mates victory was due to an illegal car and did not want the wins to be tarnished by such allegations.
He said, “In relation to winning races with an illegal car; I'm happy to be called lots of things, I'm happy to have criticism about my driving and lots of stuff but I will not take criticism in that respect. It completely pisses me off to be honest, because
the car has passed every single technical regulation after the race. All of the teams that were against it did not make any protest after Monaco.”
He added that the car has passed the tests in Bahrain and also after the Monaco GP. The FIA has decided to change the rule. The car passed the test after Bahrain, the car passed the test after Monaco, and now there has been a clarification on the rule, now
the team will look into it.
Webber admitted that Red Bull has never been able to record a victory at in Canada, but remained optimistic of his chances of changing that in the upcoming race.
The race is scheduled for Sunday June 10, 2012 at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit.
