Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel confident for 2011 Italian Grand Prix after taking pole – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel is confident for the 2011 Italian Grand Prix after getting very strong results in the qualifying round 3 on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Monza.
Vettel said that he is looking forward to Sunday’s race, as he believes his car is competitive at the moment and it will support him during the race as well. In addition, he stated that he is sure he will again stay ahead of McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton during
the Italian Grand Prix.
The German talked to the media and added that the sets of medium and soft tyres worked very well during the first and second lap of his Qualifier’s run. The team driver further added that he made a small mistake in the start, but he ignored it, stayed on
the track and focused on his last runs.
The current world champion was unable to deliver his best show against his rivals during the morning Friday Practice session. McLaren driver Hamilton was faster as compared to him and topped the Practice session as well.
Vettel commented, “So far we haven't scored a single point but we have put ourselves in the strongest position. After tomorrow's race we focus on the next one, and then we focus on the next one. If we have 100 per cent going into last race then we still
have the chance to keep that up, but that is not our target, our target is to maximise the points tomorrow.”
He went on to mention, “I think we have a fair chance. Yesterday I was happy with the car, today is more about qualifying preparations and long runs. I felt very competitive, very good, the balance was right.”
Vettel secured his pole place for the 10th time in the 2011 Formula 1 season. After the FP1, he was back on the field and successfully topped the FP2 and final Practice session of the Italian Grand Prix at the Monza racetrack.
The 24-year-old driver will start the 13th round of the ongoing season from the first position on the grid at Monza.
Let’s see how Vettel performs during Sunday’s race following his strong qualifying round.
