Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel dominates final practice session of Spanish Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team driver Sebastian Vettel finished the final practice session of the Spanish Grand Prix in the top spot on Saturday.
The German completed only three laps in the session due to some issues with his car.
After a successful Friday free practice session for the Barcelona GP, the final Practice session of the Spanish Grand Prix took place at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain on May 21, 2011.
All the Formula 1 teams have participated for their final race practice and most of the drivers tested the cars on hard compound tyres.
Vettel could not top the first two practice sessions this weekend as his teammate Mark Webber stayed on top. However, he dominated the session on Saturday despite issues with his RB7.
Vettel’s teammate Webber was 0.084 seconds off the pace and finished in second place behind him.
Mercedes GP driver Michael Schumacher had switched to soft tyres and successfully finished his practice run in the third spot. His teammate Nico Rosberg was 1.7 seconds behind and completed the session in the sixth place.
Both McLaren drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button were slow in their laps and finished the session in fourth and sixth positions respectively.
On the seventh place was Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi, who finished his practice run ahead of Renault driver Vitaly Petrov. The team’s other driver Nick Heidfeld failed to finish his run on the grid, as his car had caught fire after 25 minutes at the start of
the session.
Local hero Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso took the ninth spot, as he had to return to the pit lane after developing issues with his gearbox.
After a successful practice session, Vettel is ready to perform strongly in the Qualifying round of this weekend’s race to secure his podium place for Sunday.
The Spanish Grand Prix will begin at 14:00 local time on Sunday, May 22, 2011.
