Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel positive about future of Nurburgring – Formula 1 news
The reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel has recently stated that he wants the legendary Nurburgring circuit to remain a part of Formula 1 in the future as well.
The circuit is going to host the German Grand Prix after 25 years as the circuit has been hosting the European and Luxemburg Grands Prix since the 1990s. The track is one of the drivers’ favourite tracks and since it is Sebastian Vettel’s home race as well,
he is hoping that the track becomes a part of the Formula 1 contract as a result of a long term contract.
“It would be a shame if we lost the race here. The track is great fun, and it means a lot, especially with the history here which is unlike almost anywhere else in the world. I think it brings a lot of good, on the one hand for the people and on the other
hand for the wallet,” he said.
Since the German government has announced that they are not going to fund the Nurburgring event after the 2011 German Grand Prix, it seems that the chances of the circuit staying as a part of the sport are quite bleak. However, this matter has not been resolved
yet between the officials and organisers of the sport.
This race is going to be the first race of the second half of the 2011 Formula 1 season and since Vettel is currently dominating the drivers’ standings, he is hoping of increasing his lead this weekend and probably ending the championship battle way before
the final quarter of the season.
However, drivers like Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and his own teammate and closest rival Mark Webber are not going to let that happen anytime soon.
Since Alonso recently won the British Grand Prix, it is believed that Ferrari’s performance might improve even more this weekend as a result of which, Vettel might not be able to win his home race.
