Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel says RB8 will not be as dominant as RB7 – Formula 1 news
Red Bull star driver Sebastian Vettel believes that the 2012 version of the car will be contested much more than the dominant RB7.
He explained that the RB7 was very dominant as he secured 11 Grands Prix wins in the season and claimed his second world title. Vettel has been amazing for the past two seasons and hopes to have the same dominance going into the 2012 season.
The German knows at the back of his mind that the RB8 will face challenges and said that it will be contested much more than the RB7. The year will be an important season for him as he will be looking to win the third back to back title to prove his critics
wrong. There has been much talk of Vettel getting a handicap win because of the dominant Red Bull car.
While admitting the Red Bull car was dominant the German said that it still takes hard work and intense focus to win a world title. He said that there is immense pressure for drivers starting a new year as everyone starts from zero points and everyone has
the same opportunity to win the title. He said F1 is not like tennis where a player can do well for a couple of years and then have that cushion of points so that even if a season goes bad for him he may still be number one in the rankings.
“The thing is, at the beginning of last year we didn't really expect whatever happened last year, so I think it's the same thing again,” Vettel said. “It would be wrong to go into this season and expect 2011 to happen again, as in getting into the lead early
and having a very big gap to other competitors in the Championship. So I think it will be very, very tight this year and everything else would be a surprise to be honest.”
The first pre-season test is being held on February 7, 2012 and will give a glance of what to expect from the latest edition of the Red Bull car during the new season.
