Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel says victory at Monaco Grand Prix would mean a lot – Formula 1 news
The reigning world champion and current championship leader Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing has said that winning the Monaco Grand Prix would mean a lot to him as it is considered as the most technical circuit of the Formula 1 calendar.
However, he did not prioritise this weekend’s race over his championship run as he hopes to do what is best for him in the long run for the ongoing 2011 season.
Vettel had a perfect pole position scoring record until the Spanish Grand Prix along with four race wins in just five races so far in the 2011 Formula 1 season. However, the upcoming race is going to be a real threat to his championship as the young German
has never won a single race at the Monte Carlo circuit in Formula 1.
“No, it's not a hole. The history of the grand prix and the tradition is huge and it would be a huge honour to put my name on that list of winners around here. We are driving for the championship that is more important but this is one of the races that as
a driver would mean a lot to me,” said the reigning world champion when asked whether the Monaco Grand Prix is a hole in his record.
Red Bull Racing team has a perfect pole position record as Mark Webber was the driver who beat Sebastian Vettel at the qualifying session of the Spanish Grand Prix. Due to that, the team is still confident about its pace before heading for the upcoming race.
On top of that, the team’s fastest lap time of the session was around a second faster than the rest of the teams’ respective lap times.
“This is a track where the driver can make a difference. But it's not always black and white. It is a long weekend, there might be things that are bothering you and you have to carry them through the weekend with you. The focus is very intense and you need
to concentrate,” said Vettel.
Nevertheless, since Monte Carlo is not about speed, it is going to be interesting to see how Red Bull plan the upcoming race.
