Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel unsure of winning Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Red Bull racing team driver Sebastian Vettel has said that it seems difficult to win the Canadian Grand Prix, as he believes that the decision to run on supersoft and soft compounds in the qualifying round will mask the team’s actual pace over there.
The team has not won the Montreal race ever since the long straights of the track never turn out to be in their favour.
In the 2010 season, the team drivers Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber finished their runs in fourth and fifth places respectively in Montreal. The drivers admitted after the race that the hard prime Bridgestone rubber did not provide them an easy run over
the race weekend.
However, Vettel is expecting a tough race weekend in Montreal this time around. He knows that the long straights and medium-speed corners will not favour the Red Bull’s Renault engine.
The current world champion added, “Our car is very good in fast corners, but we don't have any of those around here. So we will see. We have been working hard and have brought some new bits here. They are not massive, but little steps, and we will see tomorrow
where we are and how we are working the tyres.”
He went on to mention, “It's difficult to say on paper that we should be first, second, third...it can work out differently. But this is one of the most difficult weekends here because the track is very different and the asphalt is very smooth, so tyres
will be important.”
The German has won five out of six rounds in the 2011 season so far. However, he is not hoping to win more races in the ongoing season, because he knows that the most challenging races will be coming his way soon.
Despite everything, he said that he wants to win every race of the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1 season and that has to be his target.
All the teams have reached Montreal for the upcoming grand prix. They will start their weekend run with the Friday free practice sessions on June 10, 2011.
