Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel wants a fast, competitive RB8 for 2012 – Formula 1 news
Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel said that the team is working hard towards building a very competitive RB8 for the 2012 season.
Red Bull have enjoyed success over the span of two seasons, winning the both the drivers’ and the constructors’ championship for 2010 and 2011 season. They will be looking to come up with a car that can maintain their dominance in 2012 as well.
Vettel had said that he would prefer a fast car over a reliable car. During the 2011 season Red Bull car had remained very reliable throughout the season and helped the German claim 11 victories in the season.
The only blemish was at the end of the season when Vettel suffered from a car puncture causing him to retire and during the final race in Brazil Vettel had a mechanical problem with car, and his transmission was in danger of being completely damaged. Still
Vettel finished 2nd and managed to finish the race.
Vettel expressed his delight over his 2011 season performance and said that he is going to cherish the season he had but the fact is it is over and he has to look into 2012 now.
“I think it has been phenomenal,” Vettel said. “I think it will be a season that we will look back to and always be very happy to look back and be very proud of. These kinds of seasons don't come across you every year; I think we need to realise that. We
focus already for next season, Adrian [Newey] and the guys are pushing very hard to get the car ready for next year and we move on.”
Vettel’s preference of a fast car over a reliable one, may show the mindset the German has, he wants to go for wins, albeit at the cost of a few retirements due to car trouble. It may be an amateur perspective but it certainly shows the competitiveness of
the Red Bull driver.
It will be exciting to see how he performs in the 2012 season as history has shown that any driver who has had such a dominating season as Vettel did in 2011, they go off track and are not able to maintain that dominance into the next season. Will Vettel
be able to deny the history? It remains to be seen.
