Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel wins 2011 Korean Grand Prix at Yeongam Circuit – Formula 1 news
Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel won the 10th race in the 2011 Formula 1 season at the Korean Grand Prix on Sunday, October 16, at Yeongam circuit.
When he was crowned the world champion at the Japanese Grand Prix last week, it was prominent that he was disappointed at the fact that he could not secure a win at the Korean racetrack.
After starting the race from the second position on the grid behind McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton the German managed a race victory for the team in Korea recently.
He was fired up from the start of the race, determined to take his 10th win of a fantastic season for Vettel. In the end, it was all too easy for him throughout the race.
Hamilton was battling it out with Red Bull second driver Mark Webber, who was trying to keep his team at bay. Vettel finished the race with a race time of 1 hour and 38.01.994 minutes in Korea.
It was Hamilton’s first podium finish in the last six races and one he desperately needed, to spring back into his lost form. On Sunday, he showed his maturity and class in one of the most exhilarating exhibition of skill and tactic to keep Webber from taking
the position behind Vettel. He finished his race with a gap of 12 seconds behind Vettel.
Although Webber was the second fastest driver on the track, it was Hamilton’s skilful driving that did not allow him to move past him.
The Korea International Circuit is divided into three sectors and overtaking is only really possible in the first section. Webber was driving well but was slow in the corners even with the DRS, he was not able to make a move to go past Hamilton. He was not
risking doing anything out of the box with McLaren’s Jenson Button and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso right on his tail. He finished the race in only 12.477 seconds behind Vettel, with Button finishing the race 1.005 seconds ahead of Alonso.
Felipe Massa of Ferrari finished his race 25.1 seconds right behind his teammate Alonso and for a change without any interventions from Hamilton who was not even in the Brazilian’s sight for the Korean race. Toro Rosso driver Jaime Alguersuari finished his
Grand Prix behind Massa and had a gap of 49.538 seconds from Vettel.
Alguersuari was followed by Mercedes GP’s Nico Rosberg and Sebastian Buemi of Toro Rosso, who finished their race at the eighth and ninth position respectively.
Paul di Resta of Force India took tenth position for his team after racing at the Korea International circuit.
A one and three finish by Vettel and Webber ensured that Red Bull Racing won the 2011 constructors’ title for the second time in two years.
Now that the world championship and constructors championship title are out of the way, the last three races should be all the more interesting as drivers will be without any pressures of the titles.
The next race is scheduled to take place at the newly developed Buddh International Circuit in New Delhi, India on October 30, 2011.
