Red Bull drivers admit that the Indian F1 circuit is challenging – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing drivers Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber admit that the Indian F1 racing track at Greater Noida is one of the most difficult ones in the world.
As the Formula 1 teams get ready for the second Indian GP, the excitement of the drivers keeps rising. The track being used for the event is the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) which has been termed as both challenging and fun to drive on.
Last year at the inaugural event, Vettel was the driver who won the race.
“The BIC really has emerged as one of the most challenging circuits on the calendar for the drivers. I loved the track layout last year, but not just because I won the race. With an average speed of 235 km/h, the course is the second quickest of the year
after Monza.” Vettel said. “There is a lot of elevation change around the lap which adds to the fun, from as much as eight percent downhill and up to 10 percent uphill; it's like a roller coaster.”
Vettel’s teammate Mark Webber seconded his comments about the track saying that it is a very nice experience driving in India. He is expecting the race to be pretty straightforward under the given weather conditions and says that he is looking forward doing
well in the race. He also appreciated the number of spectators that turned up to watch the race which made the whole atmosphere enjoyable. Last year 130,000 fans had shown up to cheer the event.
Fernando Alonso had been leading the drivers’ championship ahead of the Korean GP but then Vettel won the race and snatched the lead. Webber expects the fight between the two drivers to be really interesting. He says that anything can be expected from the
last four races of the season and that the fans should be prepared for an exciting end to the season.
The DRS zone for the Indian circuit has also been increased this year which will give the drivers a better chance at overtaking. The change had been made after some issues about the zones were increased in last year’s race. The organisers of the race have
promised an even better event this year.
