Red Bull drivers leave crash behind them

The Red Bull Formula One drivers of Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel have put their collision from the Turkish Grand Prix last weekend behind them.

On lap 40, Vettel was attempting to overtake Webber, but when Vettel’s car came on the inside of his teammate’s racing line, they hit each other, leaving Webber with damage and Vettel retiring from the race. The incident cost Red Bull the chance to secure a one-two finish, handing the race victory to McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton.

Both drivers blamed one another, and Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said the pair should have given each other more room.

Since the collision, the drivers have drawn a line underneath the incident, and are ready for the next Grand Prix in Canada on June 13th. “The team had got us into a great position and it wasn’t good for them what happened – so I’m sorry for them that we lost the lead of the race. Mark and I are racers and we were racing. We are professionals and it won’t change how we will work together going forward. We have a great team and the spirit is very strong. I’m looking forward to Canada,” said Vettel.

Webber- who had been leading the whole race up until the collision - was able to finish the race in third position. “It’s a shame for the team, as we lost a good opportunity to win the race. It’s sport and these things can happen, but it shouldn’t have done. I feel for everyone at Red Bull, at the factory and everyone involved. Seb and I will make sure it doesn’t happen again and will continue to work openly together, no problem. We have talked enough on it now, it’s done, we’re looking ahead and I’m focused on the race in Canada,” said Webber.
