Red Bull head of race engineering Ian Morgan says RB8 is on track – Formula 1 news
Head of race engineering for Red Bull Ian Morgan says that the team is where it wants to be at this stage of the year.
Sebastian Vettel was the third quickest on the final day but not where he would have liked to be. The RB8 faced some electrical problems with the car and had to be consigned to the garage for the most part of the morning session.
Morgan was clearly disappointed at losing the time but said that he was still pleased that the wind tunnel data matched up the data that was acquired from the track.
“It was frustrating to lose those hours in the morning as we had a lot to get through,” Morgan said. “But when Seb did get out, we made a pretty good recovery and we actually managed to get almost everything done.”
“It's been quite encouraging. We are where we expected to be, based on the data we had from the factory. That's good for later in the season as if you've got good trust in the tools at your disposal at home it makes development work on the car a lot easier,”
said the German.
Red Bull though are not the only team to have trouble with their car. Ferrari’s F2012 spent most of the day in the garage. It has been the case with most teams that they have been experiencing trouble with their latest challengers.
Sebastian Vettel remained tight-lipped over the issues of the car and said that it was sad that the team had to lose so much time in the morning. He said there is more time required on the track to understand where RB8 stands.
Morgan added that when a new car is put on the track, the complex system running in the car only needs a small thing to go wrong to corrupt the whole system, and that is exactly what happened. He maintained though that it is nothing big and with two more
pre-season test still left, there is still room for a lot of improvement prior to the season.
The next pre-season begins on February 21, 2012.
