Red Bull hopeful for Mark Webber’s best performance at Silverstone Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner has said that they are hopeful Mark Webber will retain his good position in the upcoming British Grand Prix, taking place on July 10, 2011 at the Silverstone race circuit.
He also said that Webber is picking up the pace again in the season after the recently held European Grand Prix, where he completed his race at the third place on the podium. However, Webber was 10 seconds behind his teammate Sebastian Vettel, who won the
Valencia Grand Prix.
The Red Bull boss has compared both drivers’ performances and admitted that Webber struggled more than Vettel on the new Pirelli medium tyres during the European Grand Prix.
Horner mentioned, “If you look at the time difference between the guys during the race he was never more than four or five seconds away for 90 per cent of the race, which is the best we've seen all year. He'll take a lot of confidence out of the weekend.”
Apart from that, Webber was quite happy with his Valencia race performance. The team driver admitted that losing a second place in the closing laps was his own fault.
The 34-year-old driver said, “We have a different regulation from Silverstone onwards and we expect that we can still be pretty competitive again. If we can keep Valencia as one of our weakest, definitely our top three weakest tracks,... we should go OK
on the other ones.”
Webber took a disappointing start to the 2011 Formula 1 season, as he failed to deliver a strong performance on the grid among his rivals. He was facing a Kinetic Energy Recovery System issue in his RB7 car due to which he was not able to perform well on
the track.
Red Bull admitted that Webber is moving in the right direction, however they are hopeful that he will maintain his European Grand Prix position at the upcoming Silverstone race weekend.
