Red Bull hoping the Singapore track will suit their RB6
The Red Bull Team has had a great season right from the beginning. The team has spelled great pace and form at one after the other races leaving behind all their competitors. Currently they stand at the top of the Constructors’
Championship, having bagged a total of three hundred and fifty points so far followed by McLaren which is shy of just three points from Red Bull, while the third place had been taken by Ferrari, as its driver Fernando Alonso grabbed another race win of the
year at the last round in Italy.
Now as the Formula One caravan is ready to head for the fifteenth race of the season at Singapore this weekend, formula1.com talked to both the Red Bull drivers, probing their fears as well as aspirations from the upcoming race.
The team driver, Mark Webber has some rough memories from his last year’s race at the Singapore Street Circuit as he had to retire from the race after having it started from fourth place on the grid. However, as he moves now for
the race he expressed his views saying that it is a unique race, and all the drivers are always thrilled and excited for driving at this night race. While describing the ambiance of the venue he added with much excitement that it is one of the most flamboyant
and festive venue of Formula One calendar. He continued telling, “You get the impression the crowd is pretty close to the track in most sections, so it’s certainly cosy. I’m hoping to improve on last year’s result.”
While describing the track he added that it is a high downforce street circuit and he expects that this will suit their RB6 brilliantly. He explained saying, “It’s got some similarities to Monaco and Budapest and we did well at
both those circuits, so I’m hoping for a strong result. We’ve yet to experience any wet running on a flood-lit track, so it will be interesting if that happens.”
Webber currently stands at the top of the Drivers’ Championship having bagged a total of one hundred and eighty seven points, being the only driver of the season who has four race wins so far. Lewis Hamilton stands next to him with three victories and one hundred
and eighty two points under his belt till now.
Well, the other Red Bull driver, Sebastian Vettel had a good time last year in Singapore as he started his race from 2nd place on the grid and had it ended at 4th.While recalling his last year’s race he said, “As a night
race, Singapore is an unforgettable event.”
He smilingly added that he has to fool around with his body to make it adjust to the timings of the country and the race, “It’s important to manage the time difference, so I try to sleep until the afternoon so my body thinks it’s
still in Europe.”
While talking about the circuit he added that he had never failed to like it immensely. The Singapore circuit is a street track encompassing 23 corners which could be very tricky so the driver really needs to find a good rhythm
avoiding the barriers carefully.
Moreover, the circuit also needs to have a brilliant set of brakes as it envelops a lot of kerbs. Here driving could become tough as it demands a lot of concentration from the driver due to the bumpiness of the roads.
Vettel concluded saying, “I think Singapore offers a great show for the Formula One fans, the cars come across on the TV like they’re in a computer game and the scenery is amazing.”
Well, six more days to go and a lot of action, thrill and celebration is expected to be seen at the Singapore circuit this weekend.
