Red Bull pleased with Sebastian Vettel’s determination to win – Formula 1 news
The Red Bull Racing team is immensely pleased with Sebastian Vettel’s podium finish even after being disqualified from his third place on the grid at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The practice sessions and the qualifying round for the Abu Dhabi GP last weekend saw Vettel struggling against the pace set by the McLaren drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button. The driver was successful at qualifying to start the race from third position
on the grid but then bad luck occurred when his car failed to reach the pits on its own accord due to a fuel irregularity. Since the incident opposes FIA rules, Vettel was required to start the race from the pit lane.
However, Vettel was great at the race as he overtook many cars and in particular McLaren’s Button to attain his third standing in the race and in turn making a podium finish. The team principal for Red Bull, Christian Horner, has been very happy with the
young driver’s performance.
“Fernando [Alonso] looked very revved up on the podium having gone forward four places, while Seb had gone to the podium via losing his front wing,” said Horner. “Seb is going about his job the way he does it. Mentally he is very strong. Before the race
I went to see him to wish him good luck, and he is in there playing a drum kit with his trainer. He said, 'I will see you on the podium'. He was the one guy in the briefing room on Saturday night who said he could do it.”
Horner had thought that they will be leaving Abu Dhabi with losing the lead in the drivers’ championship and a big difference in the points between Vettel and his rival Alonso. However, Vettel still remains in lead with a score of ten points over Alonso
which has been narrowed down from the thirteen point difference.
Meanwhile, McLaren and Ferrari both think that Vettel was also lucky at the race as safety cars were introduced due to collisions. They think that the Red Bull driver used them to his full advantage.
