Red Bull team principal Christian Horner discards RRA breach rumours – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner has denied all accusations that were recently hurled against them of breaching the Resource Restriction Agreement (RRA).
Horner claims that they have strictly adhered to the budgetary limits that were assigned to them under this agreement.
The RRA is an agreement that was inked between all Formula 1 teams in 2009 under the then FIA president Max Mosley. The purpose of this agreement was to put an upper cap on the budget of the Formula 1 teams.
All the teams and team members are supposed to abide by this agreement. In case of failure to adhere to the agreement, they face a penalty.
While speaking to the Press Association Sport, Horner said, “We agreed the scope, we worked within the scope. Job done. We've worked within the RRA, within the regulations that exist. It saved us money, saved the teams money. Unfortunately the consequence
of success is people will throw stones.”
Capgemini, a Dutch consultancy firm had recently conducted an audit on the spending of a selected few F1 teams and declared that Red Bull had been spending out of the limits prescribed by RRA. This led the Formula One Teams Associations to ask the RBR team
for an explanation.
Horner, however, came forward and rejected all such allegations to be fallacious. He clarified that they had in fact spent much less than what they could have and have thus saved on a lot of team funds.
Horner confirmed that they had completely worked within the RRA budget limit.
Horner said, “Contrary to speculation, we completely adhered to the RRA within 2010 - and Red Bull Racing had only perhaps the third or fourth-largest budget in Formula One. We’ve achieved great efficiency in reducing the headcount versus our external spend.
We don't want to turn the formula into a power-train dictated championship.”
Horner pointed out that there were some issues with the agreement that were highlighted by the audit and FOTA has agreed that it will look into those in the future.
