Red Bull technical director Adrian Newey says Sebastian Vettel has learnt from mistakes – Formula 1
Red Bull technical director Adrian Newey said that Sebastian Vettel has learnt from the mistakes he has made in the past to become even stronger in 2012.
Vettel claimed his back-to-back world championship titles in 2011. He finished the season dominantly with 11 wins and record breaking 15 pole positions. There are not many mistakes that the German made during the season but Newey believes that Vettel has
learnt from whatever mistakes he has made and that is going to make him even better in the upcoming season.
“I think all I can say is that Seb is a very bright young man who is very determined, very inquisitive and tries to understand everything about both the car and his own performance, and if he makes a mistake, which being human of course he does, then he
tries to learn from that,” Newey told Autosport.com.
He also added that the team needed to do the little things, and gave the example of Montreal where Vettel was very distraught post race. He said that the team could have done a bit more than they did at that point. They could have raised a few more concerns
over the progress of Jenson Button during the red flag.
“Well, we all were to be honest. As a team we all learned a lesson from that, and I kick myself that we didn't take enough action in critical parts, we could have said more about Jenson's progress in those last few laps,” he further added.
Newey then talked about the hunger Vettel and company still have for the wins, he said that it comes in any position, whether the team is placed 7th, 8th or at the top, the desire to win is always there. The funny thing is that the realisation of doing anything
different from when you are doing really well or when you are not doing so well is not there.
It would be an exciting season and a nervy one for Red Bull and company as they would be starting the season as favourites to claim the titles for the third time in a row.
