Red Bull to unveil its RB7 on Feb 1, 2011
Finally Red Bull Racing Team, the reigning World Champions of both the drivers’ as well as the constructors’ championship, has announced the launching date of its next car. The team plans to unveil its RB7 on February 1, 2011, at Valencia.
The first pre-season test session is also scheduled for the same date, stretching for a period of three days. The test is quite significant for all the Formula One teams, as the teams will be testing the new Pirelli tyres for the very first time. During
the pre-season test session the functionality of the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) and the new adjustable front wings will also be checked upon.
The Austrian team’s last year’s car RB6, and its 2009’s car RB5 have been the fastest on the track in the respective years. During the Formula One 2010 season, Red Bull’s closet competitors, Ferrari and McLaren, were far from catching up with their pace.
Now, as Formula One’s genius, Adrian Newey is once again buried in the team factory, designing and developing the next season’s car, another spectacle is expected to hit the track very soon.
The team’s next car, ‘RB7’ will be unveiled in a pit lane at Valencia, before the first test gets underway. While talking to the media, the team proclaimed that the next car is going to be much better than last year’s RB6. 2010 Formula One season saw the
team bag 15 pole positions, standing victorious in nine out of total nineteen races and set six fastest laps. The path towards the team’s first constructors’ and drivers’ championship was a tough one; nevertheless, the team was fully equipped. The team drivers,
Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber proved to be two of the best drivers of the 2010 calendar.
With their ambitious drivers and unmatched pace, both titles of the last season could have been packed up by the team from the very beginning; however, some incidents kept the fight on until the end. During several races, the team drivers especially Vettel,
faced unfortunate technical and mechanical problems. Initially, a plug failure at the Bahrain Grand prix caused Vettel lose his chance on reigning the podium. Later on, during the Korean Grand Prix, the German’s car stopped just a few laps before a certain
race win. The team also lost several points at the Turkish Grand Prix, when the duo crashed into each other while they were heading for a 1-2 finish for the team. The collision resulted in Vettel’s retirement from the race, while Webber had to settle at 3rd place,
behind the two McLaren drivers.
However, now as the team is preparing to enter their seventh season in the sport, Red Bull believes that they will not face reliability issues again. The team boss also insisted that they have all the basic ingredients required by a team to retain its title.
However, he added that it would be better to wait and watch the car’s performance, instead of making any predictions.
The other teams that are expected to come really strong this season are McLaren and Ferrari, while Mercedes GP will also bounce back to the title battle. Ferrari has announced to be the first team to launch its 2011 package, on January 28, whereas Mercedes
will join Red Bull on February 1, for the launch of its car. Moreover, McLaren will be among the last teams to launch its car on February 4, using an interim version of its 2010 car at the first practice.
